Ideology
The ideology of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission finds expression through their multifarious activities. These activities cover different areas of human need and social welfare such as education, health, rural development, self-employment, women’s welfare, inter-faith understanding, moral life, spiritual guidance, and relief to victims of calamities. All these activities are conducted as service, service to God in man. In the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, service is not restricted to a particular type of activity conducted at a particular time, but is a way of life. Even when the monks are not doing any service in the outside society, they do service within the monastic community. And there is no time limit or age limit for this. The monks continue to engage themselves in various service activities until they are incapacitated by illness or extreme old age.
Naranarayan Seva
Cossipore Math organizes a monthly Naranarayan Seva, attended by nearly 100 individuals in need. The Math provides them with a nourishing lunch and essential household items, including clothes. This compassionate initiative embodies the Math’s commitment to serving humanity, fostering a sense of community and support for those in need.
Empowering Young Minds
Cossipore Ramakrishna Math is dedicated to educating young children. Every morning, children in need of guidance visit the math to learn basic English letters and other fundamental knowledge. The math also provides these children with milk, bread, and biscuits for breakfast. This initiative not only fosters education but also ensures that these children start their day with nourishment, setting a positive tone for their learning and growth.
Scholarships
Cossipore Math awards scholarships annually to exceptionally talented students to support their education. The scholarships are granted to students in classes 8 and 9, as well as those pursuing higher studies. This initiative aims to nurture and encourage academic excellence among deserving students, providing financial assistance to help them pursue their educational aspirations.
Annual School Supplies Program
Cossipore Math distributes notebooks and pens to students from 11 to 12 schools annually, benefiting around 2000 children. This program empowers needy students by providing them with essential school supplies, easing the financial burden on their families. By ensuring that these students have the necessary tools for learning, the Math supports their educational journey and fosters a sense of equality among all students.
Annual Blood Donation Camp
Cossipore Math hosts a yearly blood donation camp, inviting people from near and far to donate blood – a truly noble and selfless act of service. Expert medical professionals attend the camp to collect the donated blood. This initiative plays a vital role in saving lives by ensuring an adequate blood supply for those in need. It also promotes awareness about the importance of blood donation, inspiring more people to participate in this humanitarian cause.
Free Medical Camps
Cossipore Math also organizes a medical camp three times a year, and it’s completely free of cost. This camp offers various medical services including ECG, sugar tests, dental check-ups, and consultations with general physicians. Free medicines are also provided to all attendees. This initiative aims to provide accessible healthcare to the community, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to receive necessary medical attention.
Relief Initiatives
Cossipore Math extends its support to those in need through various relief efforts. During winter, blankets are distributed, while sarees and dhutis are provided to women and men. During the dengue outbreak, mashari was distributed to the affected. During Durga Puja, special sarees are gifted to young girls and their mothers. These initiatives aim to provide comfort and support to those facing challenges, reflecting the math’s commitment to community welfare.
Handwriting Classes
Cossipore Math hosts free weekly handwriting classes for children to improve their handwriting skills. The classes aim to enhance the children’s writing abilities and help them develop clear and neat handwriting. By offering this service, the Math supports the educational growth of the children in the community, emphasizing the importance of good handwriting for their overall learning.
Annual Doctors’ Convention
Cossipore Math annually organizes a doctors’ convention, welcoming doctors from all specialties. The convention aims to enhance their understanding of spirituality through the teachings of Thakur, Maa, and Swamiji. This spiritual enlightenment is believed to enrich their perspective and approach towards serving humanity. By combining medical expertise with spiritual insight, doctors can contribute to the well-being of society in a more holistic manner, embodying the ideals of compassion and selfless service.
Welfare Housing Project
Cossipore Math is actively engaged in welfare work, including the construction of houses in Ghat Mura village, Paschim Medinipur. These houses, providing 2 BHK accommodations with iron shades, have significantly improved the living conditions of those in need. The initiative has ensured that people in the village have secure housing, enhancing their overall well-being.
